Beginning the last leg with a Gala Dinner

with final passengers boarded in Port Said, the Himalaya began the final leg of its journey to London. This final week of sailing kicked off with another Gala Dinner. The menu card from this dinner features the history of the three ships named Himalaya – dating back to the first (sailing ship) in 1853, the second in 1892 and the ultra modern super fast ship Jean was sailing on, launched in 1949. The third Himalaya is quoted as “the largest ship to be completed anywhere in the world in 1949”.

The menu for the Gala Dinner featured exotic sounding dishes such as “Consume Fleury” and “Potage Washington” – and Jean’s card is signed by several members of the ship’s orchestra.
