“Went to Edinburgh via Perth, Glenfarg, Kinross, Kincardine Bridge, Linlithgow, Edinburgh. Went to the Edinburgh Castle, which is a large place used for civil defence. A very small chapel called St. Margaret’s Chapel, where she worshipped. Saw the crown jewels which were smuggled from Dunnotar Castle, and placed there after being hidden at the church for many years. Went to the War Memorial which is a wonderful piece of workmanship.”
Excerpt from Jean’s mother’s diary
Jean herself wrote of the visit to Edinburgh on a postcard to a friend Ruth:
Dear Ruth, I spent a happy afternoon here while staying in Blairgowrie, and intend to return some time. We looked at the beautiful shops along Princes Street, then explored the castle. Wondering what you’re doing, missing you. Love from Jean”.
