“As a perfect end to a day like that we came to Windermere in the Lakes District. A quiet, homey guest house and most beautiful lake. We walked by the lake a bit, then raced round leap frogging, piggy backing, standing on our heads and all manner of nonsense, before returning to find cup of tea and supper waiting for us, although it was nearly midnight. What a day!
We drove on next day by Grasmere and Keswick on Derwent-water, the last we saw of the Lakes District, through Carlisle, and over the border into Scotland by Gretna Green.
